Wire mesh is manufactured from St 1 iron in coil form. St 4 B Ribbed steel bars formed by cold drawing and special ribbing are manufactured by welding by electronic punto welding in desired lenghts.
Wire mesh is used as a construction material in reinforced concrete floors, curtains, retaining walls, foundations, site and road concretes, airports, tunnels and galleries, swimming pools, channels, prefabricated structure elements, and as a stirrup in beams and columns, provided that it is specially prepared.
DEFINITION OF MESH
Today, WIRE MESH bars are manufactured by cold drawing of Bst 50/55 (RK) low carbon normal St I iron (cold rolling) according to Bst Ivb or international norms and by ribbing it during this process. These WIRE MESH bars are wrapped around drums during rolling and cut in automatic straightening and cutting machines in desired lenght and then weaved in electronic punto welding machines. Wire mesh production is made according to the norms of TS 4559, DIN 488, BS 4483, ASTM-A 497. The details about iron steel bars (S 500) used in wire meshes and ready stirrup are indicated in TS 708.
WIRE MESH is used in reinforced concrete slabs and walls, column-footings, beams and columns, and as stirrups in cisterns, channels, tunnels, and prefabricated material and also used in the fields where steel is customarily used such as swimming pools, airports and concrete roads, garden fences, banisters, and suspended ceilings. Reinforced and ribbed by cold rolling and joined to each other with point welding in precise sizes, the steel bars are used as a strengthening material of vertical and horizontal reinforced concrete materials which have wide surfaces.
BENEFITS OF MESH
1 - Material Saving: With a safety tension of two times more of a regular construction iron, the use of wire mesh ensures 40% saving from weight compared to regular construction iron (STI). For concrete 160 from STI iron, Ve = 1400 kg/cm2, while for wire mesh this amount is Ve = 2400 kg/cm2. Therefore, the cross section of iron is reduced by half.
2- Time Saving: Reduction in the material used in wire mesh, being in the form of plates, easy transport and easy installation helps save time to a great extent.
3 - Labor Saving: In wire mesh, as opposed to the regular iron, there is not any processes of straightening, cutting bars in wires, cutting bent bars, making hooks, laying out to the floor in specific distances and connecting them. Installation of wire mesh in short time provides 50% saving.
4 - Transport Saving: As Wire Meshesare manufactured in standard type sizes (500 x 2.15), their transportation is easy. And since it saves from iron, the transport fees decrease.
5 - Money Saving: Decrease in Wire Mesh material by almost half, time saving, and labor saving; at the end all these provide a 10 to 20% money saving.
6 - Superior Quality: Wire Meshes are manufactured in automatic welding machines with desired precision levels. Wire Mesh bars displays a homogenous distribution in concrete and thus their tensile strengths are ensured to be removed properly. As the bars are ribbed and connected to each other by welding, their adherence increases, sliding of the bars inside the concrete is prevented and any cracks, corrosion and leaks that may occur are eliminated.
7 - Wire Mesh has TSE certificate: It has a dimension and length standard; therefore, there is no loss from length and dimension, and no iron wastes occur that give an undesirable appearance in constructions.
8 - Wire Mesh is found in unit price list of Public Works with pos nos. 23.010 and 23.011. Pursuant to the resolution of Council of Ministers numbered 88/13181, published in official gazette dated 20 August 1988 and numbered 19905, the price difference in Wire Mesh will be given according to the 8 mm iron.
